2018 Flooring Trends

With the festive season well and truly underway, the end of 2017 draws near, which also brings the prospect of not only a new year, but a new start too. And with a fresh start on the horizon it’s time to take a look at what we think will be hot in your home over the next 12 months. If you are one of those who loves to give your home a makeover in January then why not start with the very foundation? Your floor.

We’ve teamed up with a couple of experts to discuss what we think will be frontrunners in setting the tone for your floor, and the trends that we think will really take off next year.

In 2017 we’ve seen a huge rise in grey interiors, flooring has been no exception to this. In fact, over the last 12 months we’ve seen a massive surge in grey flooring throughout homes. At first it was predicted that this trend would be somewhat of a ‘fad’ but it seems to have really made an impression on many people! Due to the neutral shade, grey pairs really easily with most furnishings so no need to panic if you already have your interiors – they should go wonderfully with this floor! Another great thing about grey flooring, and probably one of the reasons that it is so popular is due to the versatility of it. There are so many different shades available, so regardless of the look you currently have, you’ll be able to create the one that you want.

Another popular trend from 2017 that should be sailing through to 2018 is Parquet flooring. This trend resurfaced a while ago after falling off the radar for a couple of decades. Unfortunately people believed that Parquet flooring was a little dated, probably because when you saw it most people thought back to their school days, sitting on the cold floor whilst listening to some kind of lecture in the form of an assembly. However, since the popularity of another interior trend ‘shabby chic’ has surfaced this has definitely assisted in the revival of parquet floors and all their glory. We can definitely see this geometric beauty sticking around!

On their way out, we think 2017 will be the year that we wave goodbye to short, thin planks of flooring. Instead we expect to see the continuous growth of wider, longer planks. This style of flooring is perfect for making your room appear larger and less busy, as well as offering a more rustic and characteristic feel to it to it too. We definitely think wider planks will be the “in thing” over the next 12 months.

Lastly, we know that there is a strong desire to make your home as eco-friendly as possible. This is something that we think will certainly remain and, with this in mind, we strongly believe that the likes of cork and bamboo floors will be a popular choice among homeowners. These materials are some of the least damaging for the environment and will make the perfect addition to any sustainable home. So keep an eye out for the greener materials in 2018.

So there we have it, just a few of our predictions on what floors will be the must-haves of 2018, keep your eyes out for these ones and many more interior surprises.
